Frame design and construction
Italian in every fibre.
We design our frames around what matters in the saddle: weight, pedalling response and handling precision. We build them in Italy, choosing materials and processes to suit each model.

Every Officine Mattio frame is conceived, designed and tested in-house. Construction is entrusted to expert hands, able to work the material to the design specifications.
Geometry, tube profiles and processes depend on how the bicycle will be used and the ride we want to achieve. We follow every step, from preparing the materials to the final finish.
Carbon
We use Toray carbon fibre. The fibre type, its orientation and the layup let us tune stiffness, weight and comfort to the needs of each frame.

Stage 1Ply cutting
An automatic plotter cuts the carbon fibre plies into the shapes defined by the design.

Stage 2Laying up in the mould
The plies are placed in the mould by hand, following the layer sequence and orientation defined at the design stage.

Stage 3Moulding
The mould is subjected to heat and pressure. The resin bonds the fibres and the frame takes its shape.

Stage 4Wrapping and reinforcement
Extra layers of carbon are applied at the most stressed points, reinforcing the structure according to the design specifications.

Stage 5Structural quality control
Our technicians inspect every frame for structural and cosmetic defects before the next stages of work.

From frame to colour.
Once construction is complete, the frame moves on to painting. Colours, logos and graphics are made by hand, with the same care we give to the structural work.
